The visit comes after 1.6 million in the state have already cast their ballots in vote early. Romney capped off his Colorado campaign with a rally in Englewood Saturday night.? The polls are open until 7 tonight.? The Capital Christmas Tree starts making it?s way through Northwest Colorado today, beginning its journey to Washington D.C.? The 73-foot Engelmann Spruce was cut down from the White River National Forest Friday.? A celebration was held in Meeker, complete with a Tribal Ceremony.? The tree heads to Rangely this morning.? Residents can view it at the ball fields on River Road and Bell from 9 to 11.? From there the tree will make its way to Craig, where people can see it at the Moffat County Fairgrounds from 1:30 to 2:30.? Those that show up will be treated to Christmas songs, a chance to buy a souvenir, and a visit with Santa Claus.? After that, the tree will head to Steamboat.? Christmas tree permits are now available at all Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest offices in Colorado and Wyoming for $10.00.? Each permit allows for the cutting of one tree on National Forest System Lands. There is a limit of five permits per household. Trees must be for personal use, not for resale. The permit must be clearly displayed around the stem of the tree before leaving the cutting area.? Some areas of the Forest are off limits to tree cutting or may be difficult to access. Please contact the Ranger District in the area where you will be cutting your tree for site-specific information, including road status and area restrictions.

The Environmental Protection Agency has devoted an unprecedented number of bureaucrats to finalizing new anti-coal regulations that are set to be released at the end of November.? That?s according to a report from the Washington Examiner who quotes a source inside the EPA.? The report says more than 50 EPA staff are now crashing to finish greenhouse gas emission standards that would essentially ban all construction of new coal-fired power plants. The independent and non-partisan Manhattan Institute estimates that the EPA?s greenhouse gas coal regulation will cost the U.S. economy $700 billion.? Coal supporters say the rush is a major sign of panic by environmentalists inside the Obama administration. They say if Obama wins today?s election, the EPA would have another four full years to implement their anti-fossil fuel agenda. But if Romney wins, regulators will have a very narrow window to enact a select few costly regulations that would then be very hard for President Romney to undo.

Colorado is not the only state with a marijuana question on today?s ballot.? There are marijuana related questions in 6 states this year, including Massachusetts, Washington, Oregon, Arkansas, and Montana.? Questions range from medical allowance to complete legalization.? In Colorado, Amendment 64 would give adults the right to possess up to an ounce of marijuana at one time.? It would also allow users to grow their own in limited amounts.? Supporters say the point is to treat the drug in the same fashion as alcohol, especially when it comes to penalties for violations.? Polls show Amendment 64 has had steady support in Colorado, despite the number of organized groups that have taken a stand against it.

Colorado?s Independent Ethics Commission will investigate whether Secretary of State Scott Gessler wrongfully used state money to travel to a Republican election law training event and the Republican National Convention in Tampa in August.? Gessler?s office responded to the announcement of the review yesterday by saying, ?We welcome a thorough review.?? Colorado Ethics Watch filed a complaint last month against Gessler that alleged he misappropriated public funds because he was reimbursed for attending political events.? The Independent Ethics Commission?s Jane Feldman says the amount of money in question is $1,570.51. She says Gessler could be fined up to double that amount if he is found to have violated rules.? Gessler has a month to respond to the complaint. Feldman says she expects the case to be resolved sometime next spring.

The Routt County Road and Bridge Department has announced a temporary road closure.? The closure is necessary for some road work.? Road and Bridge crews will be replacing 2 new culverts a mile north of the intersection of Routt County Road 52 and Highway 40 on Thursday.? The project should finish off repairs that had to be made after a washout earlier this year.? The work should be finished by 4 Thursday afternoon, but drivers need to be aware that Routt County Road 52 will be closed while it?s being done. ?If you have questions, you can call the Routt County Road and Bridge Department.
